Subtle PG-13 Lies
It's always interesting to see what films draw teenagers. A year ago, Juno was the hottest thing. Last fall it was Twilight. So what film has their attention now?

Last Tuesday a film was released that I predict will be one of the next cult classics of this generation. The film is Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist. Like Juno and Twilight, the film has a PG-13 rating. But this is one PG-13 film that has me wondering what the MPAA is smoking.

The Message of the New #1 Song, Video and Ringtone that Kids Are Downloading

I've noticed two trends out of numerous musical artists and celebrities lately.

1. Become more sexualized
2. Care about the world

Why not do both? That's what Madonna is proposing (along with Justin Timberlake and Timbaland) in her new song "4 Minutes."

The video speaks for itself, and the words of this catchy song convey a message that Madonna has been preaching for years. "If you feel it, It must be real." Isn't that good advice? Get in the back seat with your boyfriend/girlfriend and go with "what feels right" at the moment.

Here's an excerpt from a Madonna lyric site:

Madonna and Justin:
If you want it, You already got it
If you've thought it, It better be what you want
If you feel it, It must be real just...
Say the word, and I will give you what you want

Madonna: Time is waiting
Justin: We only got 4 minutes to save the world
Madonna: No hesitating
Madonna: Grab a boy
Justin: Grab a girl
Madonna: Time is waiting
Justin: We only got 4 minutes to save the world

So, are our kids actually listening to this? The answer is a recordbreaking "yes."

"4 Minutes" sits in the #1 spot on iTunes right now in "Top Songs" AND "Top Videos" AND "Top Ringtones." This song helped Madonna surpass Elvis Presley from his standing as the artist with the most top 10s (This is Madonna's 37th top 10). Billboard reports that "4 Minutes" jumped from 63 to #3 last week on their Hot 100 chart. That was spurred by over 200,000 downloads the first week of it's release along with Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body" (surprise surprise).

MTV.com has the highly sexualized video readily available on the front page. iTunes has the song and video, along with a pre-order for her new album Hard Candy (already ranked #9 in downloads right now, and it's not even available yet... what's that tell you?). YouTube has it. Verizon had it as a "Verizon Exclusive" digital download... and yes... if you haven't figured it out by now, most kids now have it in their phones and iPods.

Hmmmmmm.

Food for thought as we talk about the influence of media.

Aaaaaa, makes me want to hide my girls away now and not let them out until they're 30!

I don't really see anything wrong with the song or video.... there is much worse out there these days. At least there are no violent or prejudiced messages. And who doesn't want to do what feels real? hehehe

And...to think she's a mom with little kids! Ugh! If anyone is looking for us, my family will be trying our best to hide under a rock for the next 15 years.

What about not letting the influence of media influence the adults? Seriously, I could have done without having to see images of porn today. What ever happened to remaining pure and not looking at such things as Madonna's female body parts? I think you could have made your point without putting porn images on your blog site. An evil culture is all around us, I would like to think that church and church blogs are the last place people would see porn pictures. And Madonna sitting with her legs wide open is porn like it or not.

  • Our Inspiration
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:5-9
